PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Delancey Street Senior Center is located between Chrystie and Forsyth Streets in Sara Delano Roosevelt Park. The Center works with seniors 60 years or over and serves 3 meals a day, Monday through Friday (breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack). On Saturday breakfast and lunch is served. The Center delivers meals six days a week to homebound elderly who live in Bowery lodging houses. The Center is open from 8 AM to 4 PM and on Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM.
The Senior Center provides extensive case management, entitlement services, advocacy, first – aid care and access to primary health care services on – site (including a general practitioner and a podiatrist). Staff follow up with aftercare, case planning and outreach into Bowery lodging houses and the Lower East Side. Referrals are made to shelter and housing, clothing and showers, escort, counseling, crises intervention, respite and nutrition education. Recreational activities are also provided, including art and music therapy, movies, exercise classes, ballroom dancing and access to a large private park.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
The following criteria will qualify a person for placement in BRC’s Senior Center:
- Clients must be 60 years old and over.
REFERRAL MATERIALS
Prospective clients need only present documentation of identification with proof of age. Special arrangements can be made for homeless seniors who have no identification.
The Center will accept telephone referrals as well as walk – in admissions.
